SIOUX FALLS –– The Huron Junior Legion picked up one win in four games over the weekend at the Dakota Classic in Sioux Falls.
In the first game Friday, Huron fell 8-0 to Elkhorn.
Jimmie Martin tossed all four innings for Huron, allowing seven runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two.
The Huron offense was held to just three baserunners.
In the second game Friday, Huron’s offense woke up, but unfortunately, the Columbus 1 Nebraska Jr Blues capitalized on control issues in the Huron pitching to win 13-5.
Zaidyn Wood opened the game for Huron, allowing nine runs, three earned, over 4 2/3 innings on six hits and six walks. He struck out one. Gavin Waldner finished the game for Huron, going 2 1/3 innings, allowing four runs on three hits, one walk, and two strikeouts.
Jackson Ford and Waldner each had three singles for Huron. Waldner added a stolen base and Ford added a walk.
Martin and Deklan Harrington each had a pair of singles. Martin also stole a base.
On Saturday, Huron scored a 13-4 victory over Harrisburg Gold 16U.
Colt Culver went the distance for Huron on the mound, throwing five innings, allowing four runs on five hits and a walk, striking out two.
Culver also had a big game at the plate, with a pair of doubles, a walk, and three stolen bases.
Quincy Rashaad had two singles and a stolen base. Martin had a double. Noah Koops had a single and a walk.
Sean Janes stole two bases and Wood swiped one.
In the final game of the weekend tourney, Huron dropped a high-scoring matchup with McKeans Floors, 14-12, on Sunday.
Janes was the lone Huron pitcher, throwing 3 2/3 innings, allowing 14 runs on eight hits and five walks, striking out one.
Wood had a big day at the plate, with a home run, a double, and a single. Waldner and Koops each had a pair of singles. Ryker Shelton had a single and two walks. Shelton also stole a base.
Culver had a pair of walks and stole a base.
Huron takes a 4-6 record into today’s doubleheader against Sioux Falls East at Klock Field beginning at 5 p.m.
