Area track teams finish fifth in relays at Howard Wood

SIOUX FALLS — A trio of area relay teams finished fifth during the final day of the Howard Wood Dakota Relays on Saturday.

Wolsey-Wessington used a 53.80 second time to finish fifth in the Class B girls’ 400-meter relay. Running for the Warbirds were Kenedee Rowen, Mya Boomsma, Riyli Peterson and Kailynn Dorris.

Wolsey-Wessington also took fifth in the Class B boys’ 400 relay with a time of 46.36. Members of the team were Marty Gohn, Ethan Nelson, Keegan Haider and Joey Hoverson.

Wessington Springs was fifth in the Class B boys’ 1,600 relay with a time of 3:37.96. Running for the Spartans were Carter Grohs, AJ Neely, Mason Schelske and Dylan Schimke.

De Smet’s Mackenzie Zell finished sixth in the girls’ discus.

Zell had a mark of 118 feet, 8 inches.
