HURON — Dorothy Lucille Schmit, 96, of Huron, passed away Friday, April 6, 2018, at Sunquest Healthcare Center in Huron surrounded by her family.
Her funeral service will be 11a.m., Thursday April 12, at the First United Methodist Church in Huron with burial in the Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at the Welter Funeral Home, or one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
Dorothy Lucille Roberts was born December 9, 1921, in Huron to Lewis and Edna Muriel (Stuart) Roberts. She attended school in Huron, graduating from Huron High School in January 1941.
She was united in marriage to Orvel Schmit August 22, 1941, in Minnesota. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed playing cards and Bingo. She also enjoyed watching television especially, “Perry Mason” and “Matlock”.
She is survived by her husband of 76 years; children, Leona (Bernard) Kowalke, Linda Schuetzele, Thomas (Cheryl) Schmit, and Cindy Gabert; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by daughter, Janet Marie Fearon; granddaughter, Melanie Schmit; and son-in-law, Donald Schueltzle; siblings, Vesta Needham, Thelma Detlef, Evelyn Welty, Elva Wigington, Lillian Baker, Darlyene Johnson, and LaVern Roberts.
