HOWARD — Leon Lewis Neises, 90, of Howard, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2018, under hospice care.
A Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 6, at St. Agatha Catholic Church in Howard with burial and Military Rites in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery at Howard. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Wednesday with a Scripture service at 7 p.m., all at the church in Howard.
Leon Lewis Neises was born July 31, 1928, near Howard to William and Mary (Leider) Neises. He graduated from Burbank High School. He joined the Army and proudly served in the Korean Conflict. He was united in marriage to Lila Jeannine Knudson October 3, 1955. The couple farmed in the Howard area. He also drove school bus, and was a member of St. Agatha Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and Nels Pederson American Legion Post 145.
He is survived by his children, Janie (Mike) Chambers of Sioux Falls, Mark (Amy) Neises of Howard, Nancy Jacobson of Howard, and Lynn (Scott) Hiltunen of Yankton; 19 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Delores Rasmussen of Howard; and daughter-in-law, LaVoy Amundson.
He was preceded in death by his wife; sons, David and Bradley; granddaughter; Shannon Kidd; siblings, John, Jerry, Margie Genzlinger, Phyllis Paradeis and Alice Kaufmann.
