SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. — Mary Jane George of Sierra Vista, Ariz., passed away Tuesday, April 30, 2024, with her family by her side. She was the widow of Bill George. They shared 67 years together, most of that spent in Huron.

Mary Jane was born in Mitchell, the daughter of Morris and Mary Gilbert.

She attended Huron schools and graduated from Huron College with a degree in Early Childhood Education. She was a teacher in Bridger, Mont., Basin, Wyo., and Huron, for a total of 38 years.

Mary Jane belonged to the First Presbyterian Church in Huron and Sierra Vista. She taught children’s choir and sang in the choir. She was a past member of Delta Kappa Gamma, a member of FD P.E.O., the Sierra Vista Community Chorus, Painting class, Retired teachers, Huron saddle club, National Dancer/Camper Club, Square Dancing and Round Dancing clubs, both in S.D. and Ariz. She and Bill taught hundreds to square and round dance.

She is survived by her family, Marylin (Mike) Paulson, Kathryn (Chuck) Ross and Sue Ann (JP) Higgins, three grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and many extended family members.

The funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 8, at the Hatfield Funeral Home, Sierra Vista, Ariz., with burial at the Southern Arizona Veteran’s Cemetery, with her Bill.
