To the Editor:
Music…A Worldwide Adventure
Rockstar. Popstar. Country Star. These are the words I asserted about myself as a youth. Certainly, a splashy dream I equated with my future. I loved to sing, to take a song and perform it with conviction and emotion, and something, quite frankly, I felt that God designed for me.
I was lucky enough to have people around me who supported and strengthened my dreams and desires. That support and ambition took me on a whirlwind of adventures: it helped shape my collegiate choice – selecting SDSU for Music Business. It led me to two wonderful internships – one at Walt Disney World, and another in London - working with jazz artists across the whole of the United Kingdom. It even took me to the Las Vegas stage for the Miss America competition.
Even though I never filled a stadium, or dazzled the masses, I have so many wonderful memories. Today, even without the flash and fame of stardom, I still enjoy music – though much more simply, in a lullaby, a joyfully expressed hymn, or a silly song about tacos performed off the cuff for my five kids – it is an adventure – and one I intend to enjoy in my world for years to come. So in commemoration of the 100th Anniversary of National Music Week, sponsored by the National Federation of Music Clubs, I thank all of those who contributed to my music education and experiences. I am forever grateful.
