WESSINGTON — A full day of fun-filled events is planned in Wessington on Saturday, July 15, during the Wessington Fun Days.
Beginning with breakfast by the American Legion, and including a car show, kids games, fun at the swimming pool, a flea market, the popular gelatin-eating contest, the hilarious bale-rolling contest, pie-baking and chili-making contests and wrapping up with a street dance with the Blackwater Band.
“We are always excited for Wessington Fun Days!” said Lana Dannenbring Eichstadt of the Wessington Economic Development Corporation. “There are various activities for all ages. Our parade will honor Korean veterans this year with a theme of Hooray for the USA! We are especially happy to welcome the Black Water Band for a street dance from 8 p.m. to midnight.”

6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Breakfast Brunch at American Legion Hall **Pancakes, eggs, sausage, coffee, juice**
8:30 to 9:30 a.m. All Ages 2.5K Color Run/Walk – Registration starts at 8 a.m. at the Legion Hall. Bike/strollers, walkers/runners welcome!  All participants will receive a t-shirt!  Free will donation to benefit the Wessington Swimming Pool.
9:30 a.m. Co-ed softball tournament.  Call Larry Greff @ 458-2289 to sign up a team.
Tournament concludes on Sunday, starting at 12:30.
10 a.m. Open Entry Parade on Main Street.  This year’s parade Marshal is Korean War Vets!  This year’s theme:  “Hooray for the USA”!  Registration at Farmland  Building Supply or call Lana @ 605-354-3589 or Patty @ 605-354-2084.
                            
“Crusin’ Main” Car Show registration following the parade and all entries welcome to join the parade! $.25 cent root beer floats at R&B Food Center following the parade.
11 a.m. *  “Junk in the Gym” flea market held at the Wessington Community Center.  To reserve a table contact Betty @ 458-2345 or Julie @ 354-4885. Bars for sale by   Wolsey/Wessington Music Parents.
Sunset Bar meal special:  BBQ or large hot dog, chips, and pop for $4.00.

Cenex meal special:  Walking taco and pop for $5.00.
Indian tacos for sale on Main Street served by the Catholic Alter Society.
Come join the fun at the pool following the parade!
Kid Carnival fun at the park (sponsored by the Wessington/Wolsey Music Parents)
Buy a $10.00 wristbands to play all day and a have free pass to the pool.
Concessions in the park all day.
Mini donuts, cotton candy and snowcones on Main Street.
Noon – 2 p.m. “Cruisin’ Main” Car Show – Cars, Trucks, Tractors, Motorcycles. Contact Mary at 458-2359
2:30 p.m.   Wessington’s Gelatin Eating Contest:  Jell-O fans of all ages are encouraged to join us for this prestigious contest.  Be the first to finish a bowl of Jell-O and whipped cream – WITHOUT using your hands!  Prizes awarded for winners in each category.
Limit 10 to a category.  Sign up before the contest on Main Street with
Lana Eichstadt.  Categories:  Ages 7-10; Ages 11-16; Ages 17-54; Ages 55 & up.
                           
Wessington’s Hay Bale Rolling Contest (following the Gelatin Eating Contest on Main Street).  Earn the title of Wessington’s Most Talented Bale Rolling Tea.m.!  
Tea.m.s of three (16 years of age and up) will be timed rolling a hay bale through an  obstacle course.                      
The fastest team will win Wessington Bucks.  Please sign up with Lana Eichstadt with
your tea.m. na.m.e prior to the contest. Bring your own gloves!                                                       
2 p.m. Deadline to enter pie and chili contest.  Rules are posted at R & B Food Center or at wessingtonsouthdakota.com.  Bring entries to the WEDC Sunshine Activity Center.  No
entries accepted after 2:00 p.m..  Judging will be from 2-4: open to the public at 4 p.m..
4 p.m. Chili and Pie Feed at the WEDC Activity Center.  Free will offering to benefit the Wessington Public Library.
Miller/Wessington Outlaws amateur Baseball at the ball field
5 p.m.    Bean bag toss tourna.m.ent will be held at the tennis courts.  Cash prizes will be given to the winners.12 year old and under play for FREE; 13 years old to adults is $5.00 per person.  
8 p.m. to Midnight - Street dance featuring “Black Water Band.” Admission is $10 per person.  

Please Read: ATV’s, scooters, golf carts, etc. are motorized vehicles that are meant to be used
Off –road.  By law, one must have a valid driver’s license to drive an ATV and those riders or drivers under the age of sixteen must wear a helmet.  Do not carry passengers unless you have seat belts or safety gear for them.  All children on or near these off road vehicles MUST BE supervised by parents at all times.  Those driving intoxicated or under the influence of any drug or narcotic will be arrested per South Dakota laws.  Slow down, drive responsibly, reduce speed, and follow the laws.  Children should not be driving any of these vehicles.  Speed limits will be enforced in town at 20 mph.  If you see someone not following these safety rules, please call law enforcement immediately!
