HURON — Christopher Bailey, age 67, of Huron, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2024 at Huron Regional Medical Center.
His Celebration of Life Service is 11 a.m., Saturday, April 6, at Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Memorial visitation is two hours prior to services on Saturday morning at the funeral home.
Christopher Peter Bailey was born in Llangollen, North Wales, on October 19, 1956 to Peter and Enid (Rees) Bailey. He was the eldest of three children, brother to Nicholas and Sandra. The family moved to Kidderminster, Worcestershire in the mid 1960s before emigrating to Perth, Western Australia in 1969.
At the age of 17, Christopher joined the Royal Australian Navy as a Junior Rating - Radar Plotter. He met his first wife while stationed in Long Beach, Calif. They married in Perth, Western Australia in July 1976 and returned to Huron in October 1981.
Chris worked for Picek Construction, then Motor Supply, Schoenhard Ford and Iverson Auto for 20 years and most recently Premier Equipment.
Chris loved to fish the small lakes and at the river both on water and on ice. He developed his lifelong love for photography whilst in the Navy. His favorite pastime was taking pictures of any kind of wildlife from ladybugs to eagles, deer, geese and pheasants. He even captured a picture of a female moose in Beadle County. Chris was a very good friend and will be missed.
He is survived by his sister, Sandra Pritchard of England; his brother, Nicholas Bailey of Australia; two nieces, Claire and Natasha; five grand-nieces and nephew, Amy-Lee, Jasmine, Sharon, Ruth and Cruize.
He is also survived by his many dear friends in Huron; Gary Caviezel, Greg Knight, Bob Breen, Bruce Carter, Eric Brown, and Gene Johnson.
In lieu of flowers, Chris’ wish was for memorials to be dedicated to the Beadle County Human Society.
