Library activities planned in May

Posted

As they prepare for another exciting summer of reading adventures, the Huron Public Library announces a new Feed & Read Program in collaboration with the United Way! They understand the crucial role that nutrition plays in a child’s ability to learn, grow, and thrive.

Kids, tweens, and teens are invited to visit the library every Friday (starting June 14 and ending July 26) throughout the Summer Reading Program from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. to receive a complimentary bag of snacks and nutritious goodies. There are no strings attached, and no eligibility requirements. The library and United Way believe that every young reader deserves access to healthy meals, regardless of their circumstances. While they’ve set up an online signup to ensure they have enough snacks for everyone, please note that signing up is not required to participate.

The Collaborative Summer Reading program underscores the critical link between hunger and learning. Hungry kids struggle to concentrate, affecting their physical, social, and emotional well-being. With over 22 million children across the U.S. losing access to daily meals during the summer break, they recognize the importance of bridging this gap. The library offers more than just books; it’s a place of community, support, and opportunity.

If you’re interested in donating your time, food, or money to support this program, please contact the library!

Kids’ Korner (Birth-Grade 3)
As we approach the end of Spring, regular programming will conclude.

On May 1, they will be wrapping up the Little Learners series with a session from 10 to 11 a.m., and the final Early Release After the Bell Party will be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.

In preparation for the annual Summer Reading Program, they will be getting the Kids’ Korner ready with exciting adventures that are suitable for kids of all ages. Stay tuned for more information about the program, as registration will begin on May 20, and the Kickoff party will be held on June 10 from 5 to 7 p.m. in Campbell Park. The program will run for seven weeks and will be free for both kids and families. They look forward to seeing you there!

The library also has a special event planned for May 4 at 1 p.m., “The Carnival of the Animals Storytime,” featuring the Huron High School Orchestra. Adults and children alike will enjoy seeing this book come to life through live music played by some of Huron’s finest musicians. You won’t want to miss this!

It’s time for the annual Kids’ Clothing Swap! Please drop off your gently used summer clothes from May 6 to 10, and come back on Saturday, May 11, to swap them with other families. The library asks that you presort the items by size before dropping them off.

All remaining items will be donated to Royal Family Kids Camp and local foster care families. It is a great opportunity to clear out your closets and fill them back up with fresh, gently used clothes before Summer!
