HURON Russell D. Root, 58, of Huron, passed away Friday, November 24, 2023, at his home in Huron.
His Funeral Service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 4, at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 3, at Welter Funeral Home, family present from 4 to 6 p.m. with a prayer service to begin at 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
Russell DeWayne Root was born June 21, 1965, to Harold and Jessie (Burnett) Root in Huron. Russell attended Huron schools, graduating in 1983. Russell worked at several places including the Plains, Randalls, Telelect, Huron Dressed Beef and Lodmel Construction. He was also self-employed for many years with his own cement work business, R & R Creations.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing dominoes with his family, and spending time with his kids and grandkids. He also loved to be with his loving animals: Sassy, Big Boy, Angel and Heidi.
He is survived by his children, Jessica Howard of Redfield, Joshua (Lexy) Root of Huron and Casey (Ashley) Root of Huron; 13 grandchildren, Skiley Root, Derrick Howard, Drake Howard, Sierra Howard, Emma Walls, Kinley Root, Noah Root, Adrianna, Symfani, Celeste, Serenity, Paridise, Benntlei, and another baby on the way; his mother, Jessie Root of Huron; his siblings, Rita (Tom) Nagan of Wis., Douglas (Shelly) Root of Watertown and Donald (Betty) Root of Iowa.
He was preceded by his father, Harold in 2009; his brother, Fredrick Rick Root in 1988; and his sister, Myra VanderHeiden in 2018.
