Chargers repeat as Class A state champions

SIOUX FALLS Sioux Falls Christian repeated as champions during the Class A State Girls Golf Tournament, which concluded Tuesday at Bakker Crossing Golf Course.

The Chargers had a winning margin of 32 strokes over second-placed Vermillion. West Central was third, followed by Madison and St. Thomas More.

Kaitlin Strain of St. Thomas More, who was locked in a three-way tie for the top spot after the opening round on Monday, emerged as the Class A individual champion. She improved two strokes during the second round with a 75 to finish at 152.

Tori Peterson of Sioux Falls Christian, which also had a share of the lead after the opening round, shot 77 on Tuesday to finish at 154, along with Ari Jacobs of West Central.

Cecelia VanDenTop of Sioux Falls Christian was fourth at 158, while Ashlee Sweeter of Lennox and Ronnie Wilharm of Vermillion shared the fifth spot with scores of 159.

Addisyn Evans of Redfield was the only area golfer in the tournament. After shooting a 115 on Monday, she carded a 105 during the final round to finish 74th with a 220 total.
