Heartland teams prepare for football postseason

Although two-a-day practices and the seasion openers dont seem that long ago, the 9-man and 11B playoff brackets were announced by the South Dakota High School Activities Association on Saturday after the final regular season game for the levels was completed.

Multiple Heartland Area teams will be beginning their postseason journey this week.

Class 11B
The Clark/Willow Lake Cyclones followed a late-season surge to the fifth seed in Class 11B with a 6-2 record. They will host Bridgewater-Emery/Ethan on Thursday.

Despite being ranked in the top five all season, the Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks ended up in the 10th seed with a 6-2 record. The Blackhawks will travel to play Aberdeen Roncalli on Thursday.

Class 9AA
After participating in lower 9-man classes the last two years, the De Smet Bulldogs will bring a 4-4 record into their first-round matchup in Class 9AA playoffs as the 12th seed, facing Freeman/Marion/Freeman Academy on Thursday.

Class 9A
The Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds have been ranked in the top five all season in Class 9A, and they will bring a 7-1 record and fourth overall seed into their first-round matchup Thursday against Lemmon/McIntosh.

Class 9B
Two area teams will participate in Class 9B postseason action. The Hitchcock-Tulare Patriots have a 4-4 record and will be the seventh seed, facing Colman Egan on Thursday.

The Sunshine Bible Academy Crusaders havent had the same luck in record, with a 2-6 season record. They qualified as the 15th seed and will travel to second-seeded Faulkton Area on Thursday.
