Roots survey seeks responses from current and former South Dakota residents

LINCOLN, Neb. The South Dakota Migration Roots survey is being conducted by Andrew Husa from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The survey seeks information on what drives South Dakotans to stay in the state, leave the state, or to return to the state after initially leaving.

The survey is open to anyone over the age of 19 who was a resident of South Dakota when they were in high school, including students who lived in S.D. but attended school in another state.

The goal of the survey is to understand more about the migration histories and factors of those in Great Plains states and is based off similar studies that have been done in Nebraska and Missouri after originally being designed for the state of Vermont by the University of Vermont.

The survey is confidential and respondents have the ability to skip any questions you do not want to answer, and the survey can be shared with fellow South Dakotans.
