Sorben finishes 16th for Tigers in ESD Golf Meet

ABERDEEN — Huron’s Taylor Sorben capped the regular season with a strong performance during the Eastern South Dakota Conference Golf Tournament on Tuesday at Moccasin Creek Country Club.

Sorben shot an 88 to finish 16th in the 51-golfer field. She was within a stroke of earning All-ESD honors, which is awarded to the top 15 players in the field.

Huron’s other golfer in the tournament was Elle Waldoch with a 120.

Aberdeen Central used a score of 301 to win the ESD team title, while Mitchell was second at 318. Rounding out the top five were Brandon Valley at 355, Watertown at 362 and Yankton at 367.

Maddie Childs of Mitchell turned in a low round of 69 to win the ESD individual title.

Aberdeen Central golfers held the next three spots. Kyley Wirebaugh was second at 71, followed by Olivia Braun at 73 and Emma Dohrer at 77.

Genevieve Golz of Aberdeen Central shared the fifth spot with Vanessa Smith of Brandon Valley and Gabi Olson of Watertown. They all had scores of 80.

Closing the season will be the Class AA State Girls’ Golf Tournament, which is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday at Cattail Crossing Golf Course in Watertown.
