HURON On a rainy and slippery Monday, the boys took the court at the Huron Holiday Classic at Huron Arena.
Jones County 61, Mitchell Christian 35
The Jones County Coyotes used a strong second half to distance themselves from the Mitchell Christian Golden Eagles 61-35 in the opening game of Mondays Huron Holiday Classic action at Huron Arena.
The Coyotes move to 3-2 behind 22 points and nine rebounds from Jace Nix. Dawson Hunt added 12 points and three steals.
Syver Enga led Mitchell Christian (0-3) with 14 points. Luke Mentele added 10 points, and Silas Holdeman led the Golden Eagles with five rebounds.
The Golden Eagles are back in action Saturday at the Sacred Hoops Classic in Mitchell. The Coyotes will travel to Dupree on Jan. 7.

The Langford Area Lions had to hold on against a Burke Cougars second-half surge, but came away with a 59-54 victory Monday at the Huron Holiday Classic.
The Lions were led by a huge day from Kassen Keough, scoring 32 points and nabbing seven steals. Caleb Mertz added 13 points and Rennan Bruns chipped in 12. Conner Glines grabbed five rebounds to pace Langford, now 1-4.
The Cougars fall to 0-4 despite 22 points and 10 rebounds from Quinten Bull. Brody Indahl added 12 points.
The Lions are back in action Jan. 7, hosting Redfield. The Cougars return to the court on Jan. 9, hosting Andes Central/Dakota Christian.

The Lower Brule Sioux jumped out to an early lead, but the Faulkton Area Trojans kept chipping away throughout the rest of the game. The Trojans got a three from the corner to force overtime, but the Sioux outscored Faulkton Area 9-4 in the extra frame to come away with a 74-70 victory.
The Sioux move to 4-3 behind 24 points from Jason Thompson, including five three-point baskets. Payton Palmer had 16 points and seven rebounds for Lower Brule and Elliot LaRoche had 13 points.
Faulkton Area falls to 2-3 despite four players in double-figures, led by Carter Hall with 18 points. Gian DiMaria had 15 points, Korbin Stark had 14, and Spencer Melius chipped in 10 points.
DiMaria and Landon Dikoff each had five rebounds to pace the Trojans.
The Trojans will host Wolsey-Wessington on Saturday while the Sioux will participate in the Americas Hometown Classic in Madison Saturday.

The James Valley Christian Vikings started strong Monday against the Lyman Raiders, but the Raiders depth was just too much as Lyman took a 74-62 victory at the Huron Holiday Classic.
Lyman moves to 3-1 with seven players scoring five or more points, led by MJ Diehm with 19. Aksel Ehlers scored 16 and grabbed eight rebounds, while Canyon Garnos added 12 points off the bench.
The Vikings drop to 2-1. Jerrad Wallman had 25 points and Jayven Van Scharrel added 14 points. Wallman and Van Scharrel each grabbed 10 rebounds to lead JVC.
Lyman will travel to Colome on Jan. 7 while the Vikings are back in action Jan. 9 on the road at Wolsey-Wessington.

The Chamberlain Cubs used a 20-11 third quarter to pick up their first victory of the season over the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks by a final of 51-47 Monday at Huron Arena.
The Cubs move to 1-3 behind 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench from Grady Olson. Josiah Vaad added 12 points and also grabbed nine boards. Kansas Honomichi-Rouse chipped in 10 points.
The Blackhawks drop to 2-1 despite 17 points, including five three-point buckets, from Payton Uecker. Landon Jensen added 12 points. McCoy Schulz secured eight rebounds for Sanborn Central/Woonsocket.
Chamberlain hosts Kimball/White Lake Thursday. The Blackhawks will travel to Plankinton Saturday to face Mount Vernon/Plankinton.

The Wessington Springs Spartans jumped out to a big lead early and never looked back Monday in a 56-38 victory over the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies in the Huron Holiday Classic.
The Spartans, who are receiving votes in the Class B poll, move to 2-1 behind 16 points and 11 rebounds from Colby Flowers. Karter Mebius added 14 points and Parker Graff put in 11.
The Huskies were led by Landon Johnsen with 12 points. Benjamin Prouty added 10 points and Grayson Girard snagged seven rebounds.
The Huskies travel to Viborg-Hurley Saturday while the Spartans will travel Saturday to face Highmore-Harrold.

The undefeated Clark/Willow Lake Cyclones faced off with the defending Class B champion Howard Tigers in the final game of the day. That game was completed after Plainsman press time, however, and will be in Wednesdays edition.
