Boys finals set in 281 Conference tournament

HURON – The Wolsey-Wessington Warbirds advanced to the 281 Conference boys tournament championship game with a 71- victory over the Iroquois/Lake Preston Sharks on Monday in semifinal action at Huron Arena.

The Warbirds outscored the Sharks 44-15 over the two middle quarters to pull away for the win to move to 9-2. Moshe Rainford led the way with 25 points and Caleb Richmond added 16 points.

The Sharks fall to 5-5. Lucas Peskey led I/LP with 15 points.

The Warbirds will face Wessington Springs in the 281 Conference championship Thursday. The Sharks will face Sanborn Central/Woonsocket in the third place game.

Wessington Springs 76, Sanborn Central/Woonsocket 61
HURON – The Wessington Springs Spartans, receiving votes in the most recent Class B poll, defeated the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Blackhawks 76-61 Monday at Huron Arena to earn a spot in the championship game against Wolsey-Wessington on Thursday.

The Spartans were led by 35 points from Colby Flowers. Karter Mebius chipped in 22 points as Springs moves to 8-1.

The Blackhawks fell to 5-4 despite 20 points from Sam Baruth, including six three-point baskets. McCoy Schulz added 15 points.

The Spartans will play top seed Wolsey-Wessington in Thursdays title game, while the Blackhawks will battle Iroquois/Lake Preston for third place.
