Heather (Sieler) Goehner graduated from Huron High School in 2002. She was a seven-time state champion in track and field. She was the Class AA state champion in the 800m run 3 times (1998, 2001, and 2002), state champion in the 4×400 in 1998 and 1999, and state champion in the medley relay in 1998 and 2000. She helped the Tigers to a runner-up finish at the State Track Meet 3 consecutive times – 1998, 1999, and 2000.
A three-time Howard Wood Dakota Relays Special Event participant, Heather won the 800m run in 1998, coming in second in the 800m in 2001, and placing second in the 400m in 2002. She has a total of seven 1st place finishes at Howard Wood Dakota Relays and 20 total medals.
Heather also won two state championships in volleyball in 1998 and 1999, was first team all-state twice, and was named South Dakota AA Miss Volleyball in 2002.
In basketball, Heather was first-team all-state, an Argus Leader First Five selection, and a Miss Basketball Finalist during the 2001-2002 season. She was named the 2002 South Dakota High School Female Athlete of the Year.
Heather went on to play basketball at South Dakota State University, where she helped the Jackrabbits win the NCAA Division II National Championship in 2003. She was named NCC Freshman of the Year, NCC Defensive Player of the Year, and Division I All-Independent Defensive Player of the Year. In 2006, she earned the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. In 2021, Heather was inducted into the South Dakota Sports Hall of Fame.
After college, Heather went on to get her doctorate in physical therapy from the University of South Dakota. Heather and her husband, Ryan, have been married for 20 years.
They live in Huron, where she works as a physical therapist for the Huron School District. They have 2 sons, Lincoln (15) and Logan (13).
