Alice Just, 99, of Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS — Alice Just, 99, of Sioux Falls, passed away Monday, August 10, 2020, in Sioux Falls. She was days short of being 100 years old.


Funeral Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Calvary Episcopal Cathedral in Sioux Falls. The funeral will be live-streamed on the church’s YouTube page as well as their Twitch page by following this link:

Alice Norrish Tillotson was born August 21, 1920, at Bismarck, N.D., to Benjamin and Catherine Tillotson. She was baptized at Gethsemane Episcopal Church.

Alice graduated from Bismarck High School in 1938, and attended North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D. While in Bismarck, she was employed in the office of the State Board of Higher Education, Capitol Building.


She married Ferdinand Just on June 22, 1946, at St. George Episcopal Church in Bismarck. They moved to Huron in 1949, where Alice worked at the Huron Clinic. After moving to Pierre in 1970, Alice worked for Gov. Frank Farrar and also for the Greater South Dakota Association.


Ferd died on December 17, 1970, in Pierre. Alice returned to work at the Huron Clinic. She moved to Bismarck and worked at the N.D. Secretary of State then moved to Rapid City, Aberdeen, and finally to Sioux Falls, in 1987.


She was a member of Calvary Episcopal Cathedral and St. Elizabeth Guild, serving as past president. Alice was a member of PEO Sisterhood for more than 70 years and was active in Chapter CL in Sioux Falls until a few years ago.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Catherine Zortman, Sioux Falls, SD; grandchildren, Timothy Jon Just (Kirsten), Joseph Coome, Della Zortman, Zachary Zortman (Dana); step-grandson, Douglas Weelborg (Wendy); great grandchildren Brayden Max Evelyn and Edison; step-great granddaughters, Taylor and Payton; a sister, Ellen Kelsch.

In addition to Ferd, she is preceded in death by her son, Timothy F. Just (Sheryn); daughter, Mary Just-Coome; parents; sister, Ann Tillotson; brothers, William “Bill” Tillotson and Benjamin Tillotson; and a step-grandson, Jay Weelborg.


Memorials may be directed to the Children’s Inn of Sioux Falls.
