HURON — The South Dakota Department of Health (DOH) did not release numbers on Thursday due to Thanksgiving, so the numbers released on Friday combined both day’s totals, which did lead to some higher figures both locally and at the state level.
The DOH announced 2,138 new positive cases Friday, along with 1,029 new recovered cases, 110 new hospitalizations, and 39 new deaths. The active cases in the state are currently at 16,382.
The new deaths bring the overall total to 888 virus-related deaths. Of those 888, 463 have occurred just in the month of November.
Beadle County added 37 new positive cases and three new deaths across the two days of reporting, per DOH. The three new deaths brings the county’s total to 28 COVID-related fatalities.
Beadle also added 32 new recovered cases, meaning the active cases did rise, but just by two to 475.
The Heartland Region overall added 87 new positive cases across the seven counties over the two days. DOH reported six new deaths among the seven counties in the region, which brings the total fatalities in the region to 67.
The Heartland currently has 966 active cases.
