Beadle County accident near Carpenter claims Huron man

CARPENTER – A passenger was killed and the driver has serious, non-life threatening injuries following a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning near Carpenter.
The Highway Patrol said a 2008 Chevrolet Uplander mini van driven by a 67-year-old woman was eastbound on Highway 28. A 2017 GMC 3500 van driven by a 25-year-old woman was westbound at the same location when the driver lost control on the ice-covered highway and slid into the eastbound lane and collided with the Uplander.
Gregory Johnson of Huron, a 69-year-old male passenger in the Uplander was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt.
Names of the the other people are not being released pending notification of families.

The 67-year-old female driver of the Uplander suffered serious, non-life threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Huron Regional Medical Center.
The 25-year-old female driver of the GMC, sustained minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Watertown hospital. Both women were wearing seatbelts.
Charges are pending against the 25-year-old driver.
The accident happened at 8:33 a.m. one mile south and one mile west of Carpenter.
The Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
