Byron Bible Camp’s new gym

Posted

LAKE BYRON — With the construction of the new recreation center and gym nearing completion in the next few months, Pastor and Camp Director, Jon Duba is getting excited and for good reason. The 80-by-152-foot two-story building will enable Byron Bible Camp to continue providing individuals, organizations and churches with the opportunity to explore biblical teaching, spiritual growth, leadership training and fellowship with other believers year round. This massive project, being built by Donnie Hofer Construction, will feature  two levels. The lower level of this new facility contains a gym, a fitness room, a game room, a meeting room, a fully equipped kitchen, extra storage, a rock climbing wall that extends up to the second story and an elevator for easy accessibility. The upper level includes an educational/history room, a fireside room, and much needed additional sleeping quarters. Byron Bible Camp was initially established in 1937, and by 1942, the camp was developed along the James River, approximately 18 miles north and east of Huron.  After being devastated by extensive flooding in 1997, the camp was closed and didn’t reopen in their current location until 2008. Throughout the years, Byron Bible Camp has been able to offer adolescent and adult year-round day camps, weekend retreats, pheasant and goose hunts, and backpacking trips on their 25-acre lakeside retreat. There is a wide range of amenities that include: a zip line, trampolines, canoes, kayaking, archery, rock wall climbing, an air rifle range and the list goes on.
The camp has raised $542,556 for this huge undertaking. So far $423,966 has been spent on the basics: foundation, walls, shingled roof, insulation, ceiling and siding. Currently, they have $118,590 in their capital fund so they are able to continue working. But an additional $460,000 is needed to complete this project.
The public is encouraged to go out and tour the camp and the new gym. Byron Bible Camp is located at 40546 South Shore Road. Visit their website at www.byronbiblecamp.wordpress.com for more information.
