HURON — Changes are taking place at one of north Huron’s landmark businesses.
Those passing by Carlson’s Northside Service, located at Highway 14 and Dakota Ave. N, may have noticed the bee hive of activity in the building that formerly held the vehicle repair venue for the 57-year old Huron business.
“We have sold the repair portion of our business,” said Tonya Carlson, who with her husband David own and operate Carlson’s Northside, “and are working with local contractors to complete our new touchless car wash.”
Tonya said that Carlson’s Total Eclipse Car Wash is expected to open later this month and will offer something new and different for its patrons.
“We took ‘total eclipse’ from the style of car wash,” she explained. “The total eclipse car wash will be touchless, will easily accommodate larger vehicles like dually pickups and will feature a hot water wash.”
The drive through car wash — with entry on the north side — will have customers progress through the wash portion, proceed through a door that will then close, and it is there where the drying part of the experience will take place.
“This will be the first of this type of car wash in South Dakota,” Tonya Carlson said.
The vehicle maintenance and repair portion of the business has been sold to Cole and Ashley Searing, and has been moved to the former Iverson Auto location at 2nd and Wisconsin, SW.
“We really were looking at something that will allow us more time with our family,” David said. “Having that ability to be there for our grandchildren’s events was important to us. We’re really glad how things have turned out.”
“Although our business venture is changing,” the Carlsons said in a release earlier this week, “we as a family wish to extend our utmost gratitude and appreciation to the many faithful and supportive customers from Huron and the surrounding communities who have patronized our business since 1964.
“Although our business venture is changing, we extend our deepest admiration to all of our customers who have seen Carlson’s change over the years and have taken each opportunity to continue to help us grow as a family business.”
“Carlson’s Northside will continue to be a convenience store and casino, along with the new addition of the car wash,” Tonya said. “We as a family are excited to welcome you all to our C-store, casino and car wash, and look forward to continuing to serve the Huron community.”
