State adds nearly 1,000 weekend COVID-19 cases

HURON — Beadle County had its fourth-highest number of new positive cases in a week, and the highest number of positive cases in a week since the week ending June 7. The county added 90 new positive cases over the week.
Saturday brought 26 new positive cases and Sunday seven new cases to the county, adding 33 to the total, bringing the county to 791 overall. One new hospitalization was added Saturday, the 27th the county has experienced.
Currently, Beadle County has 108 active COVID-19 cases.
Saturday saw a new record single-day high for the state in positive cases with 579. The previous day high was set Thursday at 463. Sunday reported 412 new cases, so the weekend totaled 991 new positive cases across the state.
The state has 3,790 active cases through Sunday’s numbers.
The Heartland region added new cases in each of the seven counties over the weekend, bringing the county’s total positive cases to 1,171. The active cases in the region has risen to 215, up from 125 last week and 64 just two weeks ago.
