SIOUX FALLS — Darlene Wilson, 89, formerly of Wessington Springs, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2018, at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday April 7, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. Burial will be in the Salem Lutheran Cemetery at rural Wessington Springs. Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church with a prayer service at 7 p.m.
Darlene Anita Peterson was born September 4, 1928, west of Wessington Springs to Hugo and Clara (Aistrup) Peterson. She graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1946. She completed her bachelor degree in education in the 1970s, retiring in 1990, after 39 years of teaching.
She was united in marriage to William W. (Bill) Wilson June 18, 1950. The couple farmed south of Wessington Springs. After retiring, they enjoyed many trips around the U.S. She was an expert, passionate seamstress and quilter, and a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen (Dwight) Knudson of Hettinger, N.D., Galen Wilson of Sioux Falls, and Kristi (Rod) Holland of Fort Collins, Colo., many grand and great-grandchildren, siblings, Gloria (Bob) Brockman of Wessington Springs, and Joy (Wally) Baker of Miller; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; brothers, Lowell and Donald Peterson; and son, Kevin Wilson.
