AMARILLO, Texas — Dean L. Loeffelbein, 86, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018, at home surrounded by his family.
The family will receive friends in the Memorial Park Funeral Home Chapel of Memories Thursday, May 24, from 5 to 7 p.m.
Dean was born on February 6, 1932, in Alliance, Neb. to Ewald and Violet Loeffelbein. He grew up in Huron where he was a multi-sport athlete in high school. After high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from Huron College with a Bachelor’s Degree in business.
He was united in marriage to Phyllis Nelson May 26, 1955. He was a life-long member of the American Legion. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He owned and operated Northern Sporting Goods Store for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; children, James Dean (Terrie) of Overland Park, Kan., John Allen (JoAnna) of Olathe, Kan.; Linda Jean of Amarillo, Texas, Lois Ann (Tony) Atkins of Bryan, Texas, Janet Kay Cubitt of Amarillo, Texas, and JoAnn Marie (Steve) Cochennet of Amarillo, Texas; 16 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other family members.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Alta; and daughter, Laura Lee.
