DE SMET — Donald “Don” “Bucky” Buchanan, 79, of De Smet, passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018, at home.
A funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 1, at De Smet Community Church. Burial will follow in De Smet Cemetery. Visitation hours are 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Osthus Funeral Home in De Smet.
Don was born October 17, 1939, in York, Neb. to Jim and Vera Buchanan. He attended school in York before moving to Loveland, Colo. He graduated from Loveland High School in 1957. He was united in marriage to Eileen Wendel Geiman January 17, 1975.
He loved his horses and loved to rodeo. His talent with woodworking and upholstering was almost an art form.
He is survived by his wife, Eileen; children,, Pam Dierking of Newport Ore., and Curt Buchanan of Buckeye Ariz.; stepchildren, Brenda Geiman of Rolling Hills Wyo., Lonnie Geiman of De Smet; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; siblings, James (Mary Ann) Buchanan of Loveland Colo., Shirley (Terry) Sackett of Cedar Bluffs, Neb.; sisters-in-law, Karen Carlson, JoAnn (Dick) Jewell, and Carolyn (Allen) Beyer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Lawrence and Violet Wendel; and one brother-in-law, Roger.
