SPOKANE, Wash. — Elaine Josephine Roth, 90, of Spokane, Washington, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018.
A memorial for both Elaine and her husband, Ralph Roth will be held this summer in Huron.
Elaine was born on January 23, 1928, in Huron to Claire and Genevieve (Mahoney) Fuglsang. Having begun a correspondence with Ralph George Roth when he enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the end of WWII, she married him in May 1949, just weeks after he was discharged.
In the early days of their 65-year marriage, they lived in Jefferson, S.D. and then in Sioux Center, Iowa before returning to Huron. They then lived in Mitchell from 1984 to 2013 before moving to Spokane, Wash.
Elaine took great pride in her family and in homemaking. Even long after she had to put her sewing away, she looked back with happiness on her accomplishments as a seamstress for three generations of her family. She was proud, too, of learning how to use a computer in her mid-80s so she could watch videos of her first great-grandson.
She is survived by her daughters, Vicki Roth (Philip Snyder) of Rochester, N.Y., and Valerie Roubos (James) of Spokane, Wash.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and her brother, John Fuglsang (Linda Hawkins) of Huron.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and sister, Mary Jane Wood.
