HITCHCOCK — Eldon Gary “George” Schmeichel, 66, of Hitchcock, passed away Sunday, September 19, 2021, at Avantara-Huron.
Per George’s request, there will be no services.
Gary was born November 2, 1954, to Eldon D. and Mary (Wipf) Schmeichel, at Huron. He attended school through the 8th grade at the Lake Byron School. He continued his education at Hitchcock High School, graduating in 1973. He then went on to farming with his father for many years. Though out the years, George held various jobs including Pullman Well Drilling, helping area farmers and driving gravel truck.
Gary married the love of his life, Julie Reno, on September 27, 1986, at the Hitchcock United Methodist Church. George loved to follow the local sports teams, loved playing pinochle and scrabble; and after retiring from farming, he enjoyed driving around checking everyone else’s crops. He always liked a good joke and a great story.
Gary is survived by his wife, Julie of Hitchcock; step-mother, Lila Hofer of Huron; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, outlaws and many good friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Kuhler Funeral Home has been entrusted with his arrangements.
