MITCHELL — Eleanora Pierson, 101, of Mitchell, passed away Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell.
Services will be 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 7, at New Home Lutheran Church with a visitation one hour prior. Burial will be in the New Home Lutheran Cemetery.
Eleanora Ellen (Moquist) Pierson was born January 7, 1916, on the family farm near Mitchell to Victor and Emma (Svenson) Moquist. She attended country school and graduated from Mitchell Senior High School in 1934.
She was united in marriage to George Milo Pierson April 17, 1938. The couple lived in Mitchell until 1945, when they moved to a farm in Lisbon Township. Together they bought the home place, The Grand Divide, in 1955. They moved back to Mitchell October 2, 1976.
Her favorite Bible verses were “Be still and know that I am God” found in Psalm 46, verse 10, “Love never fails” and the “121st Psalm”. Her favorite songs include, “Amazing Grace”, “How Great Thou Art”, and “The Borning Cry”.
She is survived by her children, Barbara (Dick) Graff of Sioux Falls, Sharon (Dennis) Koehntopp of Blaine, Minn., and Doug (Jill) Pierson of Yale; 10 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Services are under the direction of Bittner Funeral Chapel.
