LAKE CARTHAGE — Family Night at the Park was held at Lake Carthage to celebrate the opening of a new handicap accessible / family friendly fishing pier. The new pier was made possible thanks to funding from the South Dakota Farm Bureau Centennial Community Initiative.
“The new structure will provide endless opportunities for folks of all ages to enjoy great fishing without having to worry about the condition of the shoreline,” said Evan Meyer, South Dakota Game Fish and Parks. “This project is definitely going to make a positive impact for the entire community of Carthage and we are appreciative to South Dakota Farm Bureau for making it a reality.”
 Funding for the new pier was made possible by a $5,000 donation from the South Dakota Farm Bureau combined with a $1,000 donation from the Minor / McCook County Farm Bureau along with other community organizations who provided monetary and donations of labor to complete the project. The Lake Carthage project is one of many SDFB Centennial Community Initiative projects that will be announced in the coming weeks. The SDFB Centennial Community Initiative is a grant program for community projects that serve a need in a community, make a difference, have high visibility and reflect Farm Bureau’s mission and vision. SDFB is investing $100,000 in local communities for community Improvement projects during its centennial year in 2017.
