HURON — It was a beautiful end of May weekend for families to get out and enjoy the weather, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
Many families took part at Putters and Scoops at the Ravine Lake, swimming, playing mini golf, riding bikes, and enjoying some tasty ice cream, while some children spent time fishing. Down at the golf course, many golfers were out in action ready to warm up their clubs.
Rhythm Eilertson, 10, of Huron is using his free time teaching his younger brother, Motley, who is 3, how to fish.
“I really like to be outside as much as I can even with this virus, and I like to teach my brother new things,” he said.
Eilertson had just celebrated his 10th birthday over the weekend.
“Usually my mom and dad throw me a party and I can have friends over but with this virus we were unable to. We had a small party for me in our back yard with my close family,” he explains.
The family filled up the pool and had their own little pool party for his birthday. Rhythm’s family has more obstacles to tackle besides COVID.
“My older brother, Lyric has a severe peanut allergy and asthma so there is only so many places he can go, which is one of the reasons he is home-schooled,” Eilertson said.
Lyric has to carry his inhaler and epipen everywhere he goes. The family has been making the most of this pandemic by staging camp outs in their back yard, bringing out the tent, making s’mores, and watching the stars.
“I like to see how many constellations I can find at night,” Eilertson said. “I love my family and we do a lot together, I would be very bored if I didn’t have my sister and brothers to play with.”
