Gene Leroy Scott of Wessington Springs

WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Gene Leroy Scott, of Wessington Springs passed away at Bethany Home in Fargo, N.D., on Thursday, Feb. 15, 2018.
A memorial service will be held  at 1 p.m., Thursday, at the Prairie Lounge in Wessington Springs. The Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery. The family invites friends and family for visitation and refreshments at the Prairie Lounge immediately after the service.
He was born in Wessington Springs, to Veda Houmes and Leroy Scott.
He was a graduate of Wessington Springs High School and he entered into the Air Force in 1952 until 1956. During that time, he was sent to Engineering School where he developed an engine part for airplanes still used today.
He was married to Deana Knigge, and was partner of 27 years to Lisa Weifenbach.
He was very active in the American Legion, serving as State Post Commander for many years. He also served on the American Legion board in Wessington Springs where he was involved in the daily mechanics of the Prairie Lounge.
He is survived by his children, Darrell (Patti) Scott of Cushing, Okla., Bonnie (Chuck) Kozubal of Holliston, Mass., Allen (Jennifer) Scott of Watertown, Curtis (Danielle) Scott of Sioux Falls, and Danita (Randy) Gerhold of Fargo; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
