HURON — Gwyneth “Gwyn” E. Brenner, 89, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at the SunQuest Health Care Center.
Her celebration of life service will be 2 p.m. , Tuesday, July 3, at the First United Methodist Church. A private family burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Kuhler Funeral Home with her family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening.
On September 25, 1928, she was born in Sioux Falls and given the name Mary Murphy. She was then adopted by Grant and Mildred Van Duzee, who gave her the name Gwyneth Ellen. She grew up on the Van Duzee Ranch, attended school in Huron and graduated in 1947.
On June 17, 1947, Gwyn married Harris “Bud” Brenner in Huron. She raised four children loving every minute of being their mom. Throughout her working career she had various jobs; a few of her favorites included owning her own knit shop, working at Sears, and most of all working at the Huron Middle School cafeteria, and as the concession manager for the TIGERS. Her love for all of her students continued throughout the years and they always remembered their “Mrs. B.”
Her hobbies included making cross stitch pictures, crocheting and knitting gifts for her family, and shopping!! Gwyn enjoyed spending time with her family and they were the highlight of her life. Gwyn’s sweet and sassy spirit will always be remembered. She was loved by so many, and they “blew up” Facebook with all of the fun stories they shared about her. Gwyn’s advice is to “Always do what you want to do, listen to what others say but don’t let it change what you think. Lastly, to be happy, being happy is all that matters.”
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harris “Bud” Brenner in 2004; her parents; two sisters-in-law, Eloise Hainey and Rosella Van Duzee; and two brothers-in-law, Kenneth Hainey and Dwain Hook.
Grateful for having shared in her life are her three sons, Les and Olga Brenner of Richmond, Va., Robert “Bob” and Linda Brenner of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Scott Brenner, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one daughter, Jackie and Sam Friesen of Huron.
Blessed to have called her “GG” are seven grandchildren, Jason Rans of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Justin and Lauren Brenner of Colorado Springs, Colo., Katie and Scott Scheibe of Huron, Corey Brenner of Colorado Springs, Colo., Angie Rans of Huron, Yana Gorbalenya of Bergen, Norway, and Chris Brenner.
“GG” is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Karlie Valer of Colorado Springs, Colo., Chelsey Haibeck-Rans and Miles Kunze of Huron, Alissa Byrd and Mylie Byrd, both of Huron, Caden Brenner, Abbey Brenner and Grant Brenner all of Colorado Springs, Colo., Nora Gorbelenya and Vera Gorbelenya, both of Bergen, Norway.
Gwyn is also survived by four great-great-grandchildren, Kennidee, Baylee, Jaxton, and Oaklee Kunze, all of Huron.
Gwyn will be missed by her brother, Tom Van Duzee of Henrico, Va.; and sister-in-law, LaVilla Hook of Huron.
