Huron Speech and Debate team has success in weekend tourney

HURON — The Huron Speech & Debate Team traveled to the Brookings Bell Tournament on Dec. 15-16.
“This is a strong group of interp students and they’ve had many strong tournaments this season,” said head coach Mitch Gaffer. “In Duet Interp, both Huron teams advanced to finals and placed in the top five in a very strong South Dakota field.
“Our Congress entries had a great tournament, finishing with the top two places in Cameron and Lily,” he added.
Top finishers from Huron were:
“This was a nice way to end the first half of the season and head into a well earned break,” said assistant coach Laura Iverson.
The team will take a break for final test week and holiday break. The next tournament for the team will be the Doug Tschetter Memorial Novice Debate Tournament in Milbank on Jan. 6.
