Noah Hofer, who will be a senior this fall at James Valley Christan school, attended the Youth Trooper Academy June 24-28 in Pierre.
The program is a cooperative effort between the S.D. Highway Patrol and the American Legion of S.D.

The program is designed to expose young adults to the demands of HP recruit training. The Academy is an intensive one week mentally and physically demanding learning experience.
Classroom and hands-on training including topics such as firearms safety, defensive driving, traffic stops, leadership, and criminal law were given. Class size is limited to 24 individuals chosen from throughout the state.
For his outstanding performance at the Academy, Hofer received a $500 scholarship from the S.D. Highway Patrol. He plans on using it at Lake Area Technical Institute.
Hofer, who is the son of Darwin and Trina Hofer,  gave a synopsis of his week at the Academy to American Legion Post 7 members at their July meeting.
