ABERDEEN — Kathryn Ann Ranft, 89, of Aberdeen, died peacefully Friday, June 14, 2019, at Prairie Heights Healthcare in Aberdeen.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., today at Carlsen Funeral Home and Crematory, 1708 8th Ave. NE in Aberdeen. Pastor Mark Marion will officiate. Private burial will be in Restlawn Memory Gardens at Huron. Visitation will be today from 9 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Kathryn was born November 2, 1929, in Wessington Springs, the daughter of Ambrose “Ed” and Mary Kearns.On September 17, 1949, Kathryn married Robert “Bob” Ranft and they lived in Huron for 50-plus years. They raised three children, daughter, Brenda (Tom) Schmitt of Aberdeen, and sons, Dale Ranft of Aberdeen, and Kevin (Robin Ranft of Huron. In addition to raising their children, Kathryn worked as a Physical Therapy Aide at the Huron Nursing Home for many years. In 2003, they moved to Aberdeen. Kathryn enjoyed doing crafts, sewing, cake decorating, doing crossword puzzles, working on jigsaw puzzles and loved to play Scrabble (and always won).
Kathryn is survived by her husband; children; nine grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Preceding Kathryn in death were her parents; two sisters, Ramona Hickens, and Margaret Warne; three brothers, Vincent Kearns, Dean Kearns, and Harold Kearns; three-stepsisters, Alma Fischer, Lillian Pederson, and Faye Haines; and stepbrother, Leonard Fischer.
The family wishes to thank all of the wonderful and caring staff at Prairie Heights Healthcare who took care of her during her time there, and Avera Hospice for their care and support.
