Kenneth “Jonesy” Jones, 70, of Huron

HURON — Kenneth “Jonesy” Jones, 70, of Huron, passed away Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
His funeral service will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 7, at Bethesda Church in Huron with private interment in Restlawn Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a prayer service and time of sharing at 6:30 p.m. Monday at Welter Funeral Home.
Ken was born on March 4, 1948, in Ipswich to Wayne and Lois (Shew) Jones. Ken attended school at Ipswich and Huron schools, graduating from Huron in 1967. After graduation, Ken joined the S.D. National Guard and served 18 years.
Ken married Phyllis Peterson May 18, 1973, in Wessington. Ken had his own business, Speedland Supply, where he was a gifted machinist and mechanic. His hobbies included making hand held plasma metal art and creating specialty items from deer antlers. Ken enjoyed working in his shop, making special gifts for friends and family. He also loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Ken was always willing to lend a helping hand to family, friends, and neighbors; whether it be doing chores, picking up mail, or mowing yards, he always liked to help others.
Ken is survived by his wife, Phyllis of Huron; daughter, Bethany (Aaron) Lass of Luverne, Minn. and their children, Trenton, Brynlee, Kinzie, Everleigh, and Joel; daughter, Andrea Jones of Huron; brother, Gary (Pat) Jones of Huron; and his sister, Deb (Jim) Halling of Ft. Pierre; siblings-in-law, Ruth (Don) Bennett of Huron, Carol Peterson of Colo., Kenny (Kathy) Peterson of Iowa, and Maxine Cavenee of Redfield; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Wayne and Lois Jones; his brother, Robert Jones; his parents-in-law, Alfred and Edna Peterson; brother-in-law, Bruce Peterson; sister-in-law, Shirley Guenthner; and many aunts and uncles.
