HURON — LaVern Barta, 72, of Huron, passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017, at his home.
There will be a visitation from 5 to 7 p.m., Saturday, September 2, at the Kuhler Funeral Home with his family present at that time.
LaVern Elmer Barta was born October 5, 1944, at Huron to Emmit and Wava (Rogers) Barta. He grew up on a farm near Artesian and graduated from Artesian High School in 1963.
After graduation, LaVern moved to Huron and began his 44 year career at Farmers and Merchants Bank. He attended Northwest College of Commerce. During that time he was on the Board for the Adjustment Training Center for many years, a member of the Optimist Club and the Huron Country Club.
LaVern enjoyed bowling, golfing, fishing and pheasant hunting with his special friends.
LaVern married Charlene Eining and to this union they had two daughters, Sherry and Kelli.
In October of 1977, he married Geri Linnafelter. They enjoyed traveling.
Grateful for sharing in his life are his wife, Geri of Huron; two daughters, Sherry Barta of Huron, and Kelli (Rob) Crawford of Iowa City, Iowa, and grandsons, Rory Crawford and Nolan Crawford, both of Iowa City, Iowa; one stepson, Rod (Stephanie) Linnafelter of Vail, Colo. and granddaughters, Chelsea, Andrea, Lexi and Grace; two sisters, Sonia (Alan) Thomas of Huron, and Lynette (Allen) Schmit of Kingwood, Texas; one brother, Lynn (Rhonda) Barta of Dallas, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dureen (Mike) Olmstead; and one brother, Roger Barta.
