PIERRE — Rep. Bob Glanzer, R-Huron, was the sponsor for legislative page James Cutshaw during the first two weeks of the legislative session. Cutshaw is a senior at Wolsey-Wessington High School and plans on attending DSU in Madison for cyber operations and network security administration.
As a legislative page Cutshaw spent two weeks delivering mail/messages, answering phones, and running errands for members of the House of Representatives. Cutshaw was able to watch the legislature in action during committee meeting and on the house floor. This experience with state legislative matters provided, “immense insight into the political process”, Cutshaw said. “I never really understood what the legislators did in Pierre, this has provided me with a wealth of knowledge”
The legislative day begins around 7 a.m. with the pages gathering and delivering mail, setting out journals in the committee rooms, and aiding during committee meetings. For the rest of the day pages continue to run errands for the representatives. During the full house session in the afternoon pages are on the House floor performing duties for the representatives. Additionally, on the fourth day of session Cutshaw led the House of Representatives in the pledge of allegiance.
