To the Editor:

Guzman Energy is a for-profit company whose sole purpose is to make large profits for its investors. In 2018 Vision Ridge Partners (sole purpose is to deliver superior financial returns to its investors) and Zoma Capital (family investment group of Ben and Lucy Walton) pledged $130 million to Guzman Energy to expand its operation. Both donors then joined Guzman Energy’s Board of Directors. Who are the other members of Guzman Energy board? Who do they represent?

At the town hall meeting, Manager Chad Felderman said there would be no growth for Dakota Energy. With the push to convert motor vehicles, farm tractors, stoves, home heating, mowers, etc., to electric, will the existing lines and equipment be able to deliver power for these loads? Who will pay for the upgrades? Why wouldn’t Felderman’s buddies “who he talks to all the time” give a number for cost of power or answer questions? Why weren’t Basin Electric and East River representatives invited to speak at town hall and group meetings? Was it because they would counteract all the bad information Dakota Energy is spreading against them?

Sun and wind energy are not delivering a constant, sustainable product that is reliable 24 hours a day. Since generation needs to equal loads at all time, backup generation is required to keep the system running and reliable and adds to the total energy cost. A MISO (Midcontinent Independent System Operator, a transmission agent) representative said at the 2022 SDSU Brookings meeting that as more and more wind energy is added to the system, a lesser percentage of total wind generation will be accredited.

Members need a face-to-face annual meeting with answers to questions without the inappropriate fiduciary jive.
