HURON — Huron Public Library director Shirley Appley announced Tuesday afternoon that the library will close until March 30, based on a statement from the American Library Association. The Association statement said that all academic, school and public libraries should close until their local health organization or emergency management system says it is safe to open the library.
“With recommendations from Board members, staff, ALA and health organizations, I will be closing the library at 8 p.m. tonight (Tuesday) with consideration of reopening on March 30.”
Appley said her staff will be working during the time of closure, cleaning and disinfecting the library and the contents. The libary will offer curbside service to patrons who need materials, between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and all materials checked in and out will be disinfected. All hotspots have been recalled and will be available to the public when the libary is open again for full service.
“This is a tough decision to make,” Appley said. “It is times of crisis that the public need libraries. Our presence will be there via social media, phone service and curbside service.” It’s important to remember that during curbside service, other library services - copying, reference services, etc. - will not be available.
