WESSINGTON SPRINGS — Luella Hanen Lewallen, 91, of Wessington Springs, passed away Wednesday evening December 5, 2018, at the Weskota Manor Avera in Wessington Springs.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday December 10, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs with Rev. John Paulson officiating. Burial will be in the Restlawn Memory Garden Cemetery at Huron. A visitation will be held Sunday at the Basham Funeral Home in Wessington Springs from 5 to 7 p.m. with the family present and a prayer service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Luella L. Krueger was born October 27, 1927, to Emanuel and Ida (Lippert) Krueger in Wessington Springs. She attended rural elementary school in Beadle County and graduated from Wessington Springs High School in 1945. After graduation, she was employed by the Travelers Insurance Company and Standard Oil in Huron.
In 1948, she married Robert Hansen and they lived on their farm in southwestern Beadle County for 43 years until Robert’s death in 1991. On February 12, 1994, she married Richard Lewallen and they made their home in Wessington Springs.
Luella was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and belonged to Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wessington Springs. She enjoyed spending time with her family, playing cards with friends, entertaining guests and quilting.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Lewallen of Wessington Springs; daughter, Kay (Dana) Dahlquist of Sioux Falls; daughter, Carol (Douglas) Jones of Alpena; son, Neil Hansen of Sioux Falls; grandchildren, Tobie Jones of Madison, Jon (Katie) Jones of Alpena, Adam (Laurie) Dahlquist of Worthington Minn., Kim (Tim) Hansen of Lead, and Matt (Katie) Jones of Brookings, 10 great-grandchildren and stepdaughter, Deborah (Gary) Kilmer of Goshen, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert; and her parents.
