MITCHELL — Mabel “Mickie” Barrett, 90, of Mitchell, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2017, surrounded by her family, while under the care of hospice at her home.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 7, at the Bittner Funeral Chapel in Mitchell.
Mabel Dora Barrett was born August 1, 1927, at Carpenter to Jacob and Susie (Tschetter) Decker. She grew up attending country school near Carpenter and graduated from Yale High School in 1944. On December 8, 1946 she married Leo Barrett in Chicago, Ill. For 21 years she was employed by Sears in Chicago, and in 1988 they moved to Mitchell, and she worked for several years at Firesteel Healthcare Center. In 1994, she retired so that she could babysit her great-grandchildren.
Mickie is survived by three sons, Leo Barrett of Lake Villa, Ill., Michael (Elaine) Barrett of Mitchell, Larry (JoAnne) Barrett of Spencer; one daughter, Susan Barrett of Mitchell; one sister, Clara Decker of Huron; son-in-law, Joe (Nancy) Sgarbossa of Barrington, Ill.; seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo; daughter, Barb Sgarbossa; two brothers, Edwin and Clarence; and sister, Emma Wipf.
