BROOKINGS — Marian Joyce Goebel, 88, of Brookings, formerly of Aberdeen, passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, August 2, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church in Brookings. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Marian Joyce Bateman was born on November 20, 1928, in Huron to Verald and Theodora (Brandmire) Bateman. She was raised in the Huron area. She attended school in Huron and Aberdeen, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School. She began working at First National Bank in Aberdeen.
She was united in marriage to Francis John Goebel May 10, 1955, in Aberdeen. She was employed as a bank teller and later at the Sweetheart Bakery, where patrons would call her “Sweetheart.”
She is survived by her children, Deborah (Peter) Leiferman, and Peggy (Brent) Johnson both of Brookings, Belinda (Mike) Wesley, of Dover, Minn., and Gary (Vicki) Goebel, of Aberdeen; five grandchildren; brother, Roger (Nan) Bateman, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and a host of extended family.
Marian was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, Francis.
Rude’s Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
