MILLER — Marvin Nelson, 70, of Miller, passed away Wednesday, December 6, 2017 at his home.
Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, December 14, followed by a 1 p.m. prayer service all at Reck Funeral Home in Miller. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery, Miller.
Marvin Arthur Nelson was born December 8, 1946, in Pierre to Rex D. and Frieda (Huckfeldt) Nelson. He attended Northern State College in Aberdeen and completed his bachelor’s degree in education in 1970. He went on to teach in the Pierre, Milesville, and Lower Brule schools. He joined the Soil Conservation Service in the early ’80s and retired in 2007.
He was united in marriage to Micaela Gillaspie October 21, 1972. He moved to Miller in 1992, and they later divorced.
He is survived by his children, Dan Nelson of Mitchell, Mariah (Jeremy) Oliver of Paullina, Iowa, and Alex (Courtney) Nelson of Hot Springs; five grandchildren; brothers, Russell (Terri) Nelson of Selah, Wash.; and William (Maureen) Nelson of Monroe, Wash.; aunts, Cynthia Fuller of Fort Pierre, and Norma Jean Junkman of Camas, Wash.; uncle, Calvin Nelson of Pierre; and countless cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Merrial Thares, of Marshall, Minn.; and 14 aunts and uncles.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Marvin’s arrangements.
