HITCHCOCK — Norval “Norm” Goehring, 90, of Hitchcock, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017, at Huron Regional Medical Center.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Burial with military honors by the Hitchcock American Legion will follow at Altoona Cemetery near Hitchcock. Visitation with the family present will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the Welter Funeral Home or one hour prior to the funeral service on Monday.
Norm was born October 25, 1927, at the homestead north of Holabird to Charles and Mary (Baumgart) Goehring and graduated from Highmore High School in 1945. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1946 and married Judy Rasmussen. To this union three children were born; Sharon, Kathy, and Charles.
In 1959 he was united in marriage to Vera Spilloway. To this union three children were born; Debra, Todd and Tadd. Norm was a rural mail carrier for over 20 years and retired in 1987.
Many hobbies followed but his favorite was ham radio, which he continued until his death.
He is survived by his wife Vera, of Hitchcock; six children, Sharon (Harvey) Tschetter of Hitchcock, Kathy Coppess of Shelly, Minn., Charles (Connie) Goehring of West Hills, Calif., Debra (Dan) Hepper and Todd (Shelly) Goehring, all of Aberdeen, and Tadd (Anissa) Goehring of Grand Forks, N.D.; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; three sisters and two granddaughters.
