HURON — A milestone was reached this week, as fully one-third of South Dakota residents has completed the full series of COVID-19 vaccines, according to the South Dakota Department of Health (DOH).

According to the DOH, 48% of the state has received at least one dose of the vaccine, as it continues to inch toward the one-half tier, and 33% have now completed the series.

In raw numbers, 472,352 doses of the vaccine have been administered in the state to 287,609 people. Of those, 196,328 have now completed either the two-shot or one-shot vaccine series.

In Beadle County, the county has now eclipsed 10,000 doses administered, with the total doses at 10,048 given to 6,223 Beadle residents. Of those, 4,127 have completed the full vaccine series.

Over Wednesday and Thursday, the state added 517 new positive cases, one new death, and 451 new recovered cases. This led to the active virus cases in the state to climb to 2,484 in Thursday’s DOH numbers.

Beadle reported six new positive cases and 10 new recovered cases over the two-day period. This dropped the active cases in the county by four to 42.

The Heartland Region saw a notable drop in active cases across the seven-county region, dropping by 12 to 131 active virus cases in the region.
