RAPID CITY — Raymond R. Symes, 95, of Rapid City and formerly of Wessington Springs, passed away Sunday November 11, 2018, at the Rapid City Hospice House.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Friday November 16, at the First United Methodist Church in Wessington Springs. Burial will be in the Prospect Hill Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Ray was born May 21, 1923, in Hartford to Charles and Gertrude Symes. He graduated from Hartford High School in 1940.
He was united in marriage to E. Mildred Crouch June 6, 1949. He and Mildred retired from farming in 1986, and moved to a house in Wessington Springs.
He was very active with the United Methodist Church. In his younger years, he played baseball with the Wessington Springs Owls and after retirement enjoyed volunteering at the Kiwanis booth at the baseball games. He served on the boards of Weskota Manor and Weskota Memorial Hospital.
He is survived by his sons, Merle, Steve, and Lennie; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; and siblings, Louise Perrett, Lucille Thompson, Charles Symes Jr, Ethyl Symes, and Edith Symes.
