Region 5B one-act play contest today

Posted

HURON — Thespians will take the stage - literally - today at Huron High School, as the Class “B” Region IV One-Act play contest will take place at the Huron High School Auditorium.
The contest is free to the public. No photography or video recording is allowed and no admittance is permitted during performance.
Eight high schools will start with an empty stage, construct whatever set they have deemed necessary, present their selected play and strike the set within 45 minutes, and will receive scores from a panel of judges, with a ticket to the state one-act play festival in Brandon on Feb. 1, going to the schools with the two highest scores.
Here is the lineup for today’s contest:
9 a.m. - Howard High School — “13 Ways to Screw up your College Interview,” by Ian McWethy, directed by Amy Podhradsky and featuring a cast of nine and a two-person crew.

10 a.m. - Kimball High School — “Cheating Death,” by Kamron Klitgaard, directed by Levi Reindl and featuring a cast of seven who also handle the crew duties.
11:15 a.m. - “Have You Seen My Alien?” by Jackie Wells-Fauth, directed by Jackie Wells-Fauth and student directors Josh Borah and Lizzi Brandt, and featuring a cast of 31 and a crew of eight.
12:15 p.m. - James Valley Christian High School — “All the Bases,” by Alan Haehnel, directed by Kathy Hofer and Jill Mendel and featuring a cast of 13 and a crew of three.
2:15 p.m. - Lake Preston High School — “Squad Goals,” by Don Zolidis, directed by Krista O’Dea and featuring a cast of 12 and a two-person crew.
3:15 p.m. - De Smet High School — “The Cop and the Anthem,” by O’Henry, adapted by Mark Bucci, directed by Beth Poppen and student director Heidi Petersen and featuring a cast of 11 and a crew of four.
