Ronald E. Chaplin, 69 of Yankton

YANKTON — Ronald E. Chaplin, 69 of Yankton, formerly of Huron, passed away Thursday, August 10, 2017, at the Wakonda Heritage Manor in Wakonda.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, August 14, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home and Crematory in Yankton. Funeral service will be 1 p.m., Tuesday at the Welter Funeral Home in Huron. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial with military rites provided by the SDARNG Honor Guard and the American Legion Post 84 of Hitchcock, will be in the Altoona Cemetery at Hitchcock.
Ronald Eugene Chaplin was born November 2, 1947, in Huron to Richard S. and Esther A. (Farmer-Wright) Chaplin. He graduated from Tulare in 1966. He enlisted in the Army in 1966, and was discharged in 1974. He received the Purple Heart in 1971, and was a member of the VFW Post # 1776 in Huron.
He was united in marriage to Karen Baseler October 5, 1985. In 1986, he started his own business, Chaplin Transportation, transporting railroad crews. In 1997, the family moved to Yankton.
He is survived by his wife; daughter, Amanda Stephenson;  grandchild, Jordon; siblings, Pat (Russ) Hotchkiss, Barb (Mike) Bauer both of Huron, Charles (Joe) Wright of Utah, and Donald (Diane) Herman of Watertown; and several nieces and nephews.
Ronald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dennis; and sister, Sharon.
